Carclo Optics

Carclo Technical Plastics has developed a new modular optical system that, meets the full European ME3a Class Street Lighting specification.

This new, flexible, modular concept uses a combination of optic and reflector to meet the challenges of providing a versatile solution for a variety of road geometries and light output characteristics. A high performance optic is employed to control the light distribution along the road while a state-of-the-art reflector controls the light distribution across the road. The main features of Carclo's new Street Lighting solution are:

• A high degree of control over the optical distribution
• A flexible system that can be adjusted for different street widths and pole seperations by changing the reflector design
• A precision, aspheric injection moulded optic with accurate features for location to the LED
• A reflector component which builds on known reflector technology
• Designed specifically for small footprint SMT LEDs such as the Cree XP-E and Luxeon Rebel
• A common optical module that can be easily incorporated into a variety of outer casing designs
• Low Glare characteristics that meet or exceed Dark Sky requirements

• Optic module dimmensions: 290 x 80 x 40 mm
• Currently 10 LED's per module, but easily expandable
• Module system overall efficiency typically > 70%
• Average luminance, L > 1.0 cd/m2
• Overall uniformity of luminance, Uo: 0.6
• Longitudinal uniformity of luminance, UL: 0.8
• Glare, TI: 12.8%
• Surround ratio, SR: 0.52
