Cree recently announced the release of their new High performance at low cost LEDs. The XB–D is at the forefront of small, economical LED lighting class chips. With a footprint of 2.45 mm x 2.45 mm, the XB–D LED is 48% smaller than the XLamp XP package and ideal for lighting applications where high lumen density and compact light sources are required. Carclo remain leaders in high quality, high performance optics and continue to be at the forefront of optical design the instant new innovation is announced in the LED market. This new LED has high lumen output, which therefore allows for three times fewer LEDs, leading to three times fewer optics, which in turn enables smaller PCB design allowing flexibility in both luminaire design and cost.
In order to find why the Cree XB–D and Carclo LED Optics work so well together, please consult our web-engine OpticSelect.
Here you will find ies data, FWHM files, spot images and if you need to design the optic into your luminaire, you can also obtain igs CAD data and PDF engineering drawings.

LEDs do not take kindly to being used in dirty environments or where there is a risk of exposure to water. With this in mind Carclo have developed optics that can be effectively integrated into IP rated systems to provide protection for the LED components underneath without impairing the performance of the optic.
IP stands for Ingress Protection, as defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission*. There are two digits used to define the sealing effectiveness of an enclosure or component against the intrusion of foreign bodies (e.g., tools, dust, fingers, and moisture).
The Carclo IP Rated optics incorporates a number of key features:
The optic could, for example, be placed on top of a suitable bead of silicone on the PCB to provide an effective seal.
Or, alternatively, potted optics.....
A standard method is to ‘pot’ the components by immersing them in a resin-like material that sets hard. However, with a standard TIR optic if the potting compound touches the optical surfaces this will absorb the light and make the optic useless. With IP rated optics the inner optical surfaces are protected from the potting compound by the IP wall or skirt.
The Carclo IP Optic is available in 10mm (Spot, Frosted & Elliptical) or 20mm diameter (Elliptical).
*see international standard IEC 60529 “Degrees of protection provided by enclosures (IP Code)”.

Working jointly with Cree, Carclo Technical Plastics recently developed enabling optics for Cree’s Xlamp MT-G large source, multi–chip LED. The result of Carclo’s innovative approach to TIR optic design and experience in high efficiency optics is a new range of 30mm optics which Cree has incorporated into their new MR–16 reference design.
The MT–G has been fully tested with the full range of 30mm optics and achieves the MR–16 ANSI industry standards. This can be found at Carclo’s web–engine Opticselect.
Here you will find the wide range of beam angles including narrow, fine frosted, medium-frosted, wide-frosted and elliptical. Carclo’s Advanced Lens design, combined with our unique frosted optic technology effectively minimizes any chip–image or colour separation effects.
More versions are anticipated in the near future.

30mm Optics Range
Carclo Optics
Carclo Technical Plastics releases a new range of 30mm TIR optics for use with a range of large dome, multi-chip LED's. Further LED compatibility variants planned for release in the near future.
The 30mm optic works well with single-chip LED packages providing high peak intensities or narrow beam divergences compared to smaller diameter optics. The optic is now available in a wide range of beam angles: narrow, fine-frosted, medium-frosted, wide-frosted and elliptical.
The dynamic design behind this particular innovative product, embraces an Advanced Transform lens design combined with frosted optic technology to effectively minimise any chip-image or colour-separation effects, along with high optical efficiency.
The extensive applications of this product include: In door and out door lighting, colour mixing, stage lighting, aviation, whilst also being great for high peak intensity beams. Optical data can be viewed on OpticSelect.
HYBRID STREET LIGHTING
Carclo Optics
Carclo Technical Plastics has developed a new modular optical system that, meets the full European ME3a Class Street Lighting specification.
This new, flexible, modular concept uses a combination of optic and reflector to meet the challenges of providing a versatile solution for a variety of road geometries and light output characteristics. A high performance optic is employed to control the light distribution along the road while a state-of-the-art reflector controls the light distribution across the road. The main features of Carclo's new Street Lighting solution are:

The Hybrid Optic
The main optical performance characteristics of this streetlight are:
For customers who wish to simulate how our optics perform using standard photometric software, such as Dialux or Relux, the Laboratory also makes available photometric data such as 'IES' or 'lumedat' files for all Carclo optics. These are available through Carclo’s new OpticSelect tool, as all files available for each LED-optic combination are listed in the details tab.
10mm OPTIC FAMILY
Carclo - Lighting the future
Carclo are pleased to announce the addition of the Quad Optic to their existing small form-factor 10mm Optic range. These optics are ideal for applications that need to squeeze high-power LED systems (eg. using XP-E) into spaces where weight or size must be minimised, but without compromising on top quality, optical performance.
This opens up a whole world of compact, low-weight possibilities, for stage or architectural applications, colour mixing, wall-washing, bike lights and interior lighting to name a few.
The Quad optic, like the single and triple-optic versions, is available with narrow, medium and wide-circular beams, as well as elliptical beams. The Quad optic is also available with a circular or square flange layout.

WIDE AREA ILLUMINATION
Just some of Carclo's Newly Expanded Bubble Optics Range
Wide area lighting, such as in parking facilities, walkways, and other non-roadway applications is one of the most popular uses for solid state lighting today.
In the past, only costly and time consuming custom optics were able to meet the challenges of these applications, Until Now...
Carclo announces a new and expanded range of ultra-wide angle optics for luminaire designs that require the efficient lighting of wide areas with even illuminance.
Space is available at the centre of each LED module. This could be
used for an optical sensor to measure the performance of each
module. In the case of any failures, a red LED could be illuminated to
give a visual indication from ground level during daytime, that the
module may need replacing.
Carclo's wide area optics are now available in 120, 130, & 180 degree beam angles for even illumination alongside a special "downlight" version of this optic with enhanced illumination about the center spot.
All four of these new Bubble optics support both small footprint LEDs such as the Cree XP-E and XP-C.
EXPERIENCE ILLUMINATION
Complete LED Street Lighting Concept
Carclo has been designing and manufacturing optics for high power LEDs since 2002 and currently have the "best in class" wide area optics for both reflectors and refractors.
Efficiencies of light emitted by the LED to light within the illumination area are >90%.
Carclo LED optics are all manufactured from high efficiency polycarbonates that are UL rated and are suitable for continuous operation up to 120 degrees C.
Carclo LED wide area circular zone optics can achieve +/-10% uniformity about the mean value with practically zero levels of illumination outside the desired illumination area.
